Shock the Body
Our ongoing curiosity and attraction for explosive frequencies – fragile tension – attack & retreat – sudden impact & sudden loss – states of emergency – will be some of the themes in the context of this workshop.
Contrasting between a delicate and powerful approach, we explore the imaginative exits and entrances of the body and its various layers, everything between the vertical and horizontal is used producing a physically stimulating and intricate vocabulary within a playful state of battle, that ‘shock the body’.

Paul was thrown literally head first into the performing arts world by his acrobatic & circus trained mother. He completed his dance education at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 2002. After he started working with the West Australian Ballet in 2003 and then joined Buzz Dance Theatre from 2004-2005 touring interstate and regional Australia.

In 2006 he was invited to New York with Battery Dance Company and begin touring internationally, he was also one of the first members in forming years for the Dancing to Connect® programme which has now reached over 64 countries worldwide.

He also joined the London based Jasmin Vardimon Company in 2006 creatively working on both Justita and Yesterday and touring internationally with the company until 2010.
That same year he was also awarded best male dancer in the Ausdance Awards and nominated for the Helpmann Award for best dancer, in 2007 he was awarded best male performer by Article19.

Paul began training under Master David Zambrano since 2010 when he participated in the ’50Days’ workshop studying and performing in both ‘Flying Low’ & ‘Passing Through’ techniques with 50 people from around the globe. He has also performed for David for various projects in Brussels, at Tierras Enamoradas and at the opening of the TicTac Art Centre.

Since 2010 he has been working and freelancing with various companies and directors throughout the world sharing his passion for performing and creating. For the last decade he has encountered a diverse group of internationally renowned artists along the way, within the field of dance and theatre, such as Jan Lauwers, David Zambrano, Jasmin Vardimon, Jozef Frucek and Linda Kapetanea, Jonathan Hollander, Athena Vahla, Felicity Bott, Susan Quinn, Simon Dow and Alexandra Liedtke.
